In them old cotton fields

September 10, 2014

Cotton is blooming around. the area. I saw a plant that had squares, blooms, boles and mature cotton on it. One thing though I didn’t. have any desire to pick any. The two worse things about cotton picking were heat and back and or knees! You bend till your back is killing you then you go to your knees again till they are killing you. Then repeat the process all the while wiping sweat out of your eyes. Strange I never did feel taller then trees when I was on my knees!

Coffee Springs old Methodist Church Building

September 9, 2014

This is the old Methodist Church in coffee springs Alabama. It is a beautiful old building and a shame thawpid-small_dark_before[2]t its not able to be used anymore. They now meet in a new building on the west side of town . I like old buildings seems like a long time ago people used to make them pretty but now only worry about the utility and not the
aesthetics.

Repost from Long ago

It seems that I always get this feeling each year as it winds down and dreaws to a close. It is as if I get a burst of energy and want to get everything that I have not accomplished the rest of the year at once. It is the time for the inventory of my life. I guess that it is a good thing to do this because if not then life passes without any bench marks or anything else to mark its passing. One thing I usually ask mself, covertly if not overtly is, “What is the significance of my life anyway?” That question can be extended beyond the individual (myself) to my peer group and in a larger sense to humankind as a whole. Looking at it one way, mankind has absolutely no impact on the universe. All of the striving, hard work or importance are less than a ripple on an ocean of water. When the above is said, it is said leaving a purposeful force, i.e. God, out of the equation.
I was just talking with someone in the waiting room here where I brought Ellen to get her flu “bug” seen about. We broached the subject of germs (microscopic organisms) and how they change to survive and proliforate. But then one may ask the qusetion, “How does one define
‘Intelligence’?” We just have to say in the end, “I don’t know!” I like to attribute intelligence to the “Creator” or as some would call him, God. We still don’t know but we have a way to frame that definition and to hang our hopes on it. And I think that every person who has a sane mind wants something to hang his hopes upon. Our thought system and all of our concepts depend so much on a matrix of definitions that have been derived from variables with comprised of functions set by our environment and breeding.
I remember my grandpa, Pa Smith, talking to me about what a mystery life is when he was older and I was just a youngster. At that time I hadn’t experienced enough of life to think as deeply as he was thinking so I guess I just more or less passed his statement off. Now that I have been through the “rukus” so to speak I can relate to his sayings.
I usually try to come out with a slogan for the new year. I can say that I think, “Everything will be great in O’8!”
“Happy New Year Everybody!!!”

beautiful hot morning in early September in coffee springs

Well I have been blessed to live another day. These are hot days but their good days. I really enjoy sitting on our front porch and looking out over the big front yard Which is so beautiful and peaceful. I’m sitting here now listening at the hot weather bugs or July flies flies is mama used to call them. they actually are cicadas and they really raise a din in the hot weather of summer here in lower Alabama. I guess they have all in all been a big part of my life listening to those things. I can remember going to preaching in a late summer night when we had a protracted meeting or revival as some people call them now people call them now And after dark on the way home provided I was awake which was very seldom when I was smaller, the katydids would take charge of the orchestra and raise I know it that would make Beethoven’s 5th sound weak. I enjoy coffee springs being a quiet and tranquil place the cities are for the birds, pigeons that is and you know what. pidgeons. do for you when you get on to them.

It Was Hot Weather Yesterday

August 30, 2014

Yesterday was a hot day in southeast Alabama but it is as it should be since it is the latter part of August. I think dog days are supposed to be about gone but it depends on who you ask I think everybody has a different schedule for a dog days! I hear people saying it’s hotter than it has ever been oh me oh my what are we going to do its global warming. I can tell you I seen just as hot weather. Been out in the fields picking cotton in the fall when one would think they had died and gone to the bad place!
So it is really no hotter than its been in my past. It is quite amazing to see that all of them run around hollering and moaning. But that stuff won’t go away Because people are capitalizing on it and making money on it. I tend to stay away from any outfit
that advertises is that they are being green. probably the only green that worried about is greenbacks !

Ham Radio In the Pits because of Dog Day Propagation

August 23, 2014

Well as I said, propagation is in the pits because of dog days of summer is when we have little propagation on I’m radioimage

.  Well, hasn’t said ham radio is not very good these days because of propagation being in the pits as it is one dog days comes along every year.  But I still enjoy it and it’s even good when you have difficulty copying.  Sometimes it’s fun to do things that are difficult.  If it’s always good, then it feel like a shooting fish in a barrel  are catching fish out of a barrel!  well.  I enjoy out out here every morning, and it’s very pleasant here in coffee Springs in the morning I hear my neighbors roosters crowing and I remember in my growing up we always had chickens and I love the year the roosters crowing and then singing!  Those hens always say baak baak baak baak.  I have my globe turned  to Australia part of the world , because that’s probably the place for propagation is going to come into the early morning.

Now just sitting here with prissy and enjoying the morning.  God go in and make some coffee and a few minutes  and set with Ellen.   This retirement is not bad at all!    I’m enjoying this way of doing my blog because I can do it with my smart phone  and don’t have to go and turn on the computer or anything .  Later I can take it out on the computer.

I tagged prissy, out here and she always constantly and answers me.  She’s not just judgemental in any way.  , and it’s easy to understand her vocabulary because she only has one word (meow).  but most of the way you talk a cat is through body language.    That is their most important form of communication.    But you really have to get to knowing the individual cat to talk much.

Ellen's Roses

Dog Days and the hot weather of August is in with the Fury here in coffee springs Alabama. Better yet I can’t complain about it because it is as it should be. August is supposed to be hot for sure! We have a hot weather warning On the weather report this morning and it’s supposed to get into the 3 digit numbers the heat index is supposed to be 114 in certain places! I remarked to Ellen that we didn’t have to have these warnings when I was little because we could tell when it was hot. I guess people don’t have sense enough today to know when it’s hot nowadays.  maybe they do have sense enough but I just won’t let their sense speak to them. No doubt about it heat is dangerous. one thing that makes it more dangerous is that we don’t live in the heat like we did when I was a little kid. if you go out and in of air conditioning then the heat affects you worse. back when I was that age when I was picking cotton imagined I would have died if I had lived in an air conditioned place and had to get back on those fields. ” In them old cotton fields back home” certainly has special significance to me.

Shopping at Graceville, FL. at VF Outlet with Ellen

August 23, 2014

wpid-2014-08-22_10-50-53_hdr

I came down here today to Graceville, Fl shopping with Ellen. She loves to shop and I try to go with her as much as I can. I first got the picture in upside down and had to work on it but think I have it right now. The mall is kind of depressing because much of it is out of business as are many of the malls that are around the country.
